4.  Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is vital to all of us for many health reasons. It seems that many persons are unsuspecting that their bodies are deficient in this all-important vitamin. And when our levels of D3 are low, so is our depression. It also helps to regulate the tryptophan into serotonin. Unless you spend more than half your time outdoors, you should add this vitamin to your daily intake.

5.  Magnesium and Zinc

Magnesium and zinc supplements reverse depression symptoms quicker than any other supplement you can take. These two are very helpful in building up resistance to colds and flu and zinc, in particular, is a major treatment for depression.

6. Beneficial Foods

There are several foods that contribute to increased serotonin in your brain. One is green tea, which all of us know is extremely healthy for us. Another major additive is the omega-3 fatty acids found in cold water fish or in supplements. Fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir, and buttermilk are in a class called probiotics, which are full of good bacteria. The natural sources are better for you, but probiotics can be acquired in over the counter sources as well.

7. Curcumin

The crowning king of all the resources for improving your depression is Curcumin, which is a derivative of turmeric. Curcumin is as effective as Prozac as it increases levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Adding a small amount of black pepper with your curcumin increases its absorption by up to 2,000 percent. Take it during a meal.
