While many restaurants are closing down or having to relocate to adjust to the effects of shuttering for two months, one spot in Boerne is completely new and almost officially opened! Compadres Hill Country Cocina is veteran-owned and operated. Located just a street or two past the town square, at 209 Lohmann Street, the place can be identified by a wooden, screened smoke shack outside of a little yellow house now home to the culinary love which started in a food truck.

What’s not to adore about an eatery which serves both beloved Tex-Mex and favorites from the barbeque pit? Executive Chef Marco Sierra sure has the taste buds of Texans pegged! Enjoy the backyard atmosphere outside or inside the 1,300 square-foot dining area set up with tables, chairs, and air conditioning. Décor includes traditional items from Mexico as well as the work of local wood artist Chuck Brower, who hand creates furniture, flags, and signs. Live music is planned for the future too!

June 13th was the restaurant’s official soft opening: a cook-out style affair, which featured both carnitas and brisket tortas, as well as sirloin beef and mesquite chicken fajita platters with all the fixings. Beginning Tuesday, June 16th, Compadres Hill Country Cocina will be offering a limited menu during the week, Tuesday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Some items will include Chili Mac & Cheese, Roasted Poblano Fajita Nachos, beef and chicken fajita tacos, Los Tacos Al Carbón, and Cilantro Lime Chicken Pozole. Weekends will have their own special menu items.
