The Farm Connection: Local Organic Groceries in Boerne & San Antonio
After moving to San Antonio in 2010, Beth Parks organized a pick-up group to Miller Farms for real milk during her pregnancy. Other moms wanted in, which evolved into a bigger group with deliveries, and then even more people wanted in. So finally, a buying club formed. This original location opened in September 2015 with 135 members. Today, that number has tripled and continues to grow. Each week, a listing of the weekly offerings is sent out, you order ahead and then go pick them up! Two locations now serve the community: in San Antonio, near Fredericksburg Road and Loop 410, and just outside of Boerne, near Exit 542. The Boerne location is open Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
With more than 30 suppliers bringing goods such as raw milk, garlic, meats, yogurt, juices, cheeses, tamales, pasta, and toiletries, this venture also aims to reduce carbon footprints and supports local economies. There is a $20 annual membership fee as membership to The Farm Connection is required by Texas state law due to offerings you cannot find in a typical grocery store. Pricing is the same as purchasing at the local farmer’s market, with no additional markup. At this time and for cost reduction, only cash and checks are accepted as payment. Check out The Farm Connection online and fill out the form to join today.
