Now that fall is in full swing in Texas, complete with moderate temperatures, it’s officially time to get into an autumn mindset. If you’ve already jumped on the pumpkin spice bandwagon, that doesn’t count, although real pumpkin enjoyment can truly be found here. We’re talking fall time activities that require nothing but your participation to make them fun for the season – except maybe the addition of an actual sweater in which to enjoy them. Here are some fall activities to enjoy in the Texas Hill Country minus the pumpkin spice.

1. Visit a Local Farm, Orchard, or Pumpkin Patch

It’s definitely easy to walk into any area grocery store and load up on pumpkin anything, from pies to tarts to spice, right down to the actual gourd itself in some instances. But a visit to a local farm, orchard, or pumpkin patch can give you a true sense of fall time in the Texas Hill Country unlike any other experience. Local farms have been known to set up seasonal displays and creative family fun stops. Orchards offer the opportunity to celebrate the many varietals of autumn apples that have ripened and are ready to be incorporated into great desserts. Plus, pumpkin patches are always a reliable source for good times, including games, mazes, carving and decorating contests, and so much more! There’s a great listing of just a few available at the link provided here, and there are many more out there, just waiting for you and your loved ones to visit and see what they have to offer!

2. Take a Beautiful Fall Time Hike

There are many great hiking trails in the Texas Hill Country, in varying skill level requirements, and fall is a wonderful time of the year to fully enjoy them. Not only is the foliage inspiring in places like Lost Maples State Natural Area, but the temperatures are perfect to accommodate a day outdoors. For instance, a day at Enchanted Rock would be far more pleasing to your system if it’s not sweltering. A hike into Gorman Falls at Colorado Bend State Park is also quite pleasing (and refreshing) in the crisp fall time air.

3. Visit a Country Cabin for a Fall Getaway
