H-E-B is getting into the true spirit of the holiday season this year with special truckload deliveries of H-E-B Select Ingredients Quick Oats oatmeal to 17 Texas food banks this week. Each food bank will receive 5,760 boxes of oatmeal, which amounts to 172,800 bowls. In an ongoing commitment to battle hunger, H-E-B trucks will be delivering enough oatmeal to provide 2.9 million meals to Texas families across the state. The 17 food banks the donations will be benefiting are affiliated with Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization.

72 Billion Pounds of Food Goes to Waste Each Year
Photo: Facebook/FeedingAmerica
According to Feeding America, in our country, we have enough food to feed every man, woman, and child, yet 72 billion pounds of safe, edible food goes to waste each year. In fact, an estimated 25 to 40 percent of food grown, processed and transported in the U.S. will never be consumed. And, more food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in municipal solid waste.
Feeding America works with manufacturers, distributors, retailers, food service companies and farmers to gather food before it goes to waste. By partnering with leaders and local members of these industries, Feeding America can find ways to rescue more food that would have otherwise gone to waste—and feed more people in need.
