‘Granny Pods’ Let Your Grandma Live in Your Backyard
The circle of life is a heartwarming, fascinating path that we undergo. From our parents caring us to us caring for our aging parents, there are a few ways we can ensure that our loved ones are always taken care of. The newest idea is the Granny Pod.
Officially known as the MEDCottage, the Granny Pod is a tiny house that can be installed in the backyard of one’s home. According to Country Living, the Granny Pod is a “portable hospital room designed by a Virginia company with the help of Virginia Tech students.”
It’s a tiny house of 12 by 24 feet, equipped with medical extras that may be necessary for homing elderly parents or grandparents, such as defibrillators, hand rails, first aid supplies, and a softer floor that is designed to absorb shock when falls occur.
For around $85,000 to $125,000, the Granny Pod will connect to the main home’s sewage, water, and power system. It features a bedroom, smaller living room space, bathroom, and kitchenette. There are three sizes and styles: the MedCottage, the Classic, and the Grand.
Would you consider this option when it comes to housing elderly family members? It definitely saves on the cost of nursing homes and assisted living centers, and allows your family members to nearby at all times so every moment is cherished.
