Celebrate the arrival of spring by planning a family camping trip. With loads of activities and accommodations for the whole gang, your family will be giddy with anticipation for this memory-making excursion to Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park™ on the banks of the meandering Guadalupe River.
Situated on 65 acres just outside of Kerrville, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park offers a myriad of cabin rentals that include all the comforts of home. Some cabins feature full kitchens and full baths, queen-size beds, lofts with twin beds, and cable TV. Others provide an experience that’s a bit more rustic. Several cabins are nestled in a quiet area for a little solitude and privacy while some cabin settings encourage a more festive atmosphere. RV hookups are available as well. Certain pet designated sites welcome Fido, so pack the dog bowl. Dogs even have their own Bark Park and dog walks.
Jellystone Park will unveil several new activities and amenities for the 2017 season. Besides the two existing swimming pools (two outdoor and one indoor) and the usual activities along the river – swimming, fishing, kayaking, etc. – Jellystone has recently installed a mini golf course and a laser tag course. Let your kids wear themselves out jumping and bouncing on the new giant jump pad. Put the worries of a fall behind you, this groovy piece of play sits at ground level. Engage in a gentler game of dodge ball in the gaga ball pit that uses smaller foam and rubber balls.
Other activities include a horseshoe pit, volleyball court, basketball court, and playground equipment. Try your luck mining for precious gems at the mining sluice. Shop the camp store to buy a little bag packed with dirt. Then make your way to the sluice where a gentle washing has the potential to make you a millionaire (well, one can dream anyway). Arts ‘n crafts classes keep the creative juices flowing, and be sure to stay awake long enough to enjoy a movie under the stars.
Coming in late May, Jellystone Park will introduce the new Water Zone. Kids will party the day away in cool comfort slipping down water slides, battling a hydro storm, frolicking through spray features, and shooting water cannons. Later, check out the campground saloon which features live music, cold drinks, and soon, a wood-fired pizza oven, or see what’s playing at the park amphitheater.
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for bears, but Yogi and his gang are the friendly kind, of course. Don’t wait to make your reservations, make them now. Jellystone Park isn’t just a campground. It’s a campground, resort, and amusement park all rolled into one. Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park, 2605 Junction Highway 27, Kerrville; phone: (830) 460-3262.
