Houstonians know Jim McIngvale as “Mattress Mack,” the loveable owner and spokesperson for Gallery Furniture who always shouts that he’s ready to “save you moneyyy” at the end of his local commercials. But since Harvey hit, Houstonians developed an even greater appreciation for Mattress Mack once he quickly opened the doors to Gallery Furniture locations to evacuees who needed a place to stay.

Now, ABC 13 reports that McIngvale started an effort called Rebuild-TX to continue making an impact on the city he loves. “The future of Houston is bright. We’re a resilient group,” he told the news. “They knocked us down. We are going to get back up because if not for our struggle we would not know our strength. Our strength is as a community and as solidarity. We’re finding that right now. The future of Houston is better than ever.”

Rebuild-TX has a GoFundMe page which has accumulated over $96K. So far, McIngvale has pledged that $80K of the funds will be split between Points of Light (an ambitious volunteer service), Crisis Cleanup (open source application helping to clean disaster areas), TX/RX Labs (a hackerspace with a variety of technology), and the Houston Community ToolBank (tool lender to disaster response groups). The funds continue to grow as more people learn about McIngvale’s efforts.
