The 12th annual Pickin’ for Preemies fundraising event is scheduled to take place at Billy Bob’s Texas, at the Stockyards in Fort Worth, on Sunday, August 27, starting at 2 p.m. Featuring some great Texas talent including Austin Allsup, Sonny Burgess, Deryl Dodd, Bonnie Bishop, and many more, the event is sponsored by Margaret Smith, among others, and supports the tiniest patients at Cook Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
A Texas Red Dirt country music event benefiting premature babies, the fundraiser was started in 2005 by Justin and Casey Frazell, following their personal experience with the hospital and their fantastic NICU staff and services. Combining their love for red dirt music with this compassion, this event is now into its 12th year of helping premature babies at Cook Children’s Hospital, which is a nationally recognized and state certified, highest-level NICU, and the only Level IV of such units in Tarrant County.

Having the technology and expertise to treat the sickest of babies with many difficult and complex diagnoses doesn’t come easily, however, and without the support of generous donors and fundraising campaigns such as this, the more than 1,000 babies who are admitted to Cook Children’s NICU might not have had a fighting chance. Their NICU uses 600 specialized preemie diapers per day, which adds up over the course of a year, totaling 219,000! And this is just one of the many items that are required in the proper care of these fragile little babies. Specialized equipment, medicines, and beds are also some of the items needed, and this is only to name a few.

For the 2017 Pickin’ for Preemies event, there are more than a dozen Texas Red Dirt artists donating their time to raise money for this worthwhile cause. There will also be a buffet at 5 p.m., a live auction, and chance drawings for tons of fun! And, Billy Bob’s Texas is the place to be to help these very needy little patients and their families find the relief they’ve required. Their families also benefit from experiencing the wonderful support and best care possible that can be had at Cook Children’s, thanks to fundraising initiatives such as this. Following this, Puttin’ Fore Preemies takes place on Monday, August 28, at Diamond Oaks Country Club, where you can golf with some of these great Texas Red Dirt artists and have the peace of mind in knowing your fees are supporting the same worthwhile cause.
