A veteran-owned business with a countrified, do-it-yourself mentality, Pick-Up Pools is changing the way we cool off in the hot Texas sun. Established in 2015 in Sherwood, Arkansas by U.S. Air Force pilot Tommy Prestella, the company is co-run by his sister, Diana, and together they sell pick-up bed linings that convert a truck into a swimming pool. Made in America and sold almost as fast they can produce them, the liners sell online with a sales pitch that makes perfect sense… “No inground pool? No problem!” Selling these beauties for tailgate parties, camping, and simply cooling off in the yard, it’s an innovative product meeting a need that many of us have recently recognized we had!

Yes, there are many beautiful pictures of gorgeous backyard pools, and families having great fun in them. There are even repurposed pools made from unique items like shipping containers. But for many a consumer, these items aren’t within reach, nor do they make sense in some of our distant and rural Texas locations, and we need to cool off here and now! With a major upgrade to what many a pickup-truck owner has thought of or done a time or two, Pick-Up Pools has improved the “redneck swimming pool.”

If you’ve ever tried to fill the back of your own truck up in this fashion, you’ll instantly know what a hassle it can be to have the right type of tarp, the proper placement, and incessant leaks that cause you to have to exit your “pool” over the course of the very time you’d like to be relaxing in it. Pick-Up Pools have designed a thin, vinyl liner which conforms flawlessly to the shape of whichever truck bed you own. With this product, you simply pull the liner over your truck bed corners, ensuring the elastic is properly in place, and then fill it with water. That’s it! You’re good to go for that festival in Concan, the tailgate party at UT this fall, or the neighborhood bash you just need to chill at. And when you’re done and set to drain the pool, Pick-Up Pools has designed a valve into their liners, located close to the tailgate, allowing water to easily flow out. It’s a great way to cool off, it’s hassle-free, and it’s American ingenuity at its best! Be sure to check your truck’s payload specs prior to making a purchase, and always think of safety first (i.e. no driving with water or swimmers in the back), but otherwise, have some next-level summertime fun in your new Pick-Up Pool!
