Day of the Dead San Antonio is a celebration taking place November 1-3, 2019, hosted in La Villita, in the heart of this Texas city. The festival will feature a range of new events, including the “Catrinas On The River Parade” at the River Walk, which is anticipated to bring in 16 custom-made trajineras (canoes) from Mexico.

In a press conference which was held in September, “Day of the Dead San Antonio” CEO Javier Ruiz-Galindo explained that discussions with the city of San Antonio had been held approximately eight months prior, in order to ensure effective roll-out of the event. Not only will it be financially backed by the city itself, but the festival is also sponsored by Frost Bank and H-E-B, among others. The goal is to make San Antonio a Día de los Muertos destination.

As part of the festivities, the first annual Catrinas On The River Parade will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019, 7:00-8:30 p.m. The San Antonio River Walk will set the stage for candles, skulls, skeletons, and much more as the parade is said to be the first of its kind in San Antonio. It will commence with a performance by “La Danza de Las Mojigangas” at the Arneson, directly across from the neighborhood in which La Villita is located.

Tickets for this event can be purchased at the link available here. Pricing for the Catrinas On The River Parade will vary depending on the location of seating which you select. An official parade map can also be obtained through this same link as well, giving you the best ideas for where to gain the greatest views! A rather impressive turnout is anticipated for this River Walk event. Despite the fact that many other places throughout the Lone Star State recognize this iconic holiday with their own types of celebrations, San Antonio appears to be pulling out all the stops. Those who live in the city may want to plan for the day off work. Those who are outside of the Hill Country region might want to consider planning a road trip. This is sure to be a sensational evening of respectful celebration, joy, shared laughter, and so much more!
