In 2018, San Antonio, Texas turns 300! In the city that loves to fiesta, preparations are already underway for the momentous year long celebration that will take place in 2018. After all, it’s not every day that a historical and vibrant Texas city like San Antonio reaches the ripe old age of 300.

The tricentennial will be an international event. San Antonio has nine sister cities that will join in the festivities. Biz Journals lists them as: “Monterrey, Mexico (1953), Guadalajara, Mexico (1974), Las, Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain (1975), Gwangju, South Korea (1981), Kaohsiung, Taiwan (1981), Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain (1983), Kumamoto, Japan (1987), Chennai, India (2008), and Wuxi, China (2012).”

As of right now, the Celebrate2018 website doesn’t have too many details, but they say that their goals are to “highlight the many times we made our mark on the world’s stage. These chapters and pages of San Antonio’s narrative will come to life through various events around the city.”

KSAT reports that the official celebrations will begin right on New Year’s Eve this year and continue throughout 2018. Follow this website for updates and information on how to get involved. Right now, organizers are looking for people who want to volunteer and those who want to partner with the SA 300 organization.
