Spring Ag Day Workshop To Be Held in Kerr County

On Friday, May 6, 2016, the Kerr County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) in partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service will host their annual Spring Ag Workshop at the Kerr County Event Center. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the program beginning at 9 a.m. The workshop will take place at the Hill Country Event Center in Kerrville.

Monte Nestbit, extension horticulturalist from College Station, will discuss stone fruit production along with olive tree production in the Texas Hill Country. Jim Kamas, extension horticulturalist from Fredericksburg will discuss grape production and its challenges in the Hill Country. Richard De Los Santos with Texas Department of Agriculture will discuss marketing strategies and permits required to market local produce.

Local NRCS personnel will discuss soil health, pollinators and their importance, along with NRCS programs available to local agriculture producers. Several local producers will discuss their current horticulture operations and the challenges they may face in their operations.

This workshop will offer three hours of continuing education units for private applicator license holders. The event costs $20 with lunch provided.
